At the 2001 NFO Conference held in Muncie, Indiana, a vision was conceived, and the foundation was laid for a fund that would one day provide grants and scholarships which would support the mission of the National Folk Organization of the United States. In February of 2015, the NFO Board announced the establishment of two different types of grants.
THE DISCOVERY GRANT was designed to help pay for travel expenses to educational folk-related events such as camps, festivals, conferences, programs of study, etc. Grants of up to $500 each are available twice annually for the serious folk enthusiast. A limited number of grants may be awarded each year.
Discovery Grant deadlines:
May 1st for events from July 1 to December 31 of the same year
November 1st for events from January 1 to July 1 of the following year

Folk Arts Grants are made available once each year, and are recommended by the Grants Committee to the NFO Board of Directors for approval. Grant amounts have an upper limit of $2000.
